James King was born Jaime King on April 23, 1979, in Omaha, Nebraska. James is a childhood nickname which she used throughout her climb to fame through modeling. When she took up an acting career, she began being credited by her birth name, Jaime King.
As a young teen, King became interested in modeling and began attending a local modeling school. At age 14, she was discovered at her graduation fashion show, by New York model agent Michael Flutie. King was invited to New York to begin modeling professionally; and offer she accepted and dropped out of high school in 1995 to pursue her modeling career and move to New York.
Shortly after arriving in New York, King began appearing in all the major magazines. By age 16, King had appeared in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Mademoiselle, Allure, Glamour, Harper's Bazaar and Seventeen. She was also featured on the New York Times Magazine cover story in February 1996 and had strutted down the catwalk for numerous big name designers.
In the late 1990s, King became an alcoholic and a heroin addict. In 1997, after her boyfriend, fashion photographer David Sorrenti, died at age 21 from a heroin over-dose, King decided to sober herself. In 1998 she was back on her feet, co-hosting MTV's House of Style with Rebecca Romijn.
Since 1998, King has been featured in numerous ad campaigns, having posed for companies including Bebe, Revlon, Express Jeans, Coach, and Armani Exchange. In 2006, Jay-Z chose King to be the new face of his clothing label Rocawear.
In addition to modeling, King began her acting career in 1999 by appearing in the music video for Filter's "Take a Picture." In 2001, she made her film debut with an appearance in the comedy Happy Campers, which was featured at the Sundance Film Festival. That same year, King was seen as the daughter of Johnny Depp in the award winning film Blow, and she played a nurse in Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor.
In 2002, she appeared in the college comedy Slackers opposite Devon Sawa, Jason Schwartzman and Laura Prepon. The following year she landed lead role in the action film Bulletproof Monk along side Chow Yun-Fat and Seann William Scott, and appeared in Gavin Degraw's music video for "Chariot." In 2004, she was seen in the Wayans brothers' White Chicks, and the following year she won a double role, playing twins, Goldie and Wendy, in the film adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel Sin City. She will reprise her role in the 2007 sequel Sin City 2. 2005 was a big year for King, as she appeared in two more mainstream releases, Two for the Money with Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey, and the family feature Cheaper By the Dozen 2, as well as guest starring in an episode of the popular series The O.C., and starring in the new series Kitchen Confidential.In 2007, King is scheduled to appear in the horror flick The Tripper starring Courteney Cox and David Arquette, and in the comedy Fanboys.
